ThumbSmart - A Javascript Rollover Image Viewer with Multiple Features

Multiple independent displays on the same page.
Unlike many scripts that limit themselves to a single display per document, ThumbSmart can provide multiple displays, each configured with their own independent options. The multiple demonstations on this page illustrate this feature.
Optional Captions and Stepping Controls

These options provide an unparalleled level of functionality and versatility.
Each large image can have a text caption associated with it, simply by providing a suitable HTML element to contain it.
Line-breaks can be inserted into caption text.
The appearance of caption text is under the full control of the developer, via whatever CSS styling is applied to the element.
In addition to selecting large images with 'rollover' controls, it is possible to add 'stepping' buttons that provide 'Start','End','Back' & 'Next' navigation through the available images.
It is often requested that image-based rollover buttons should change their appearance in operation. This enhancement is easily achieved by combining the script with SmartRoll.
Can display images on hover or on click.
When 'hover' mode is used in preference to clicking, the triggering elements are free to be used as hyperlinks if desired.
Hover mode also allows the use of the 'restore' feature, which re-displays a default image whenever the mouse cursor is removed from a triggerring element. (See demos)
Large images can act as links to related sites.
A commonly requested feature is to be able to click on enlarged images to navigate to a related website. This option is activated simply by specifying a URL.
Configurable to swap images simultaneously.
A single thumbnail image or link can display two or more large images simultaneously. This entails nothing more than instantiating the script twice for the same rollover elements.
Three pre-load modes for optimal performance.
ThumbSmart's versatile configurable pre-loading system, allows developers to trade-off bandwidth use, page-loading and image response times. Where fast image response is needed, the default auto pre-loading mode is used. If displaying many large images makes bandwidth usage an issue, pre-loading can be either completely disabled, or set to 'adjacent' mode, wherein 'previous' and 'next' images are pre-loaded immediately after the loading of the currently selected image.
External code interface for synchronous functionality.
Whenever an image is displayed or restored, it can be configured to call an external function. This allows separate scripts to work in conjunction with ThumbSmart, thereby enhancing the user experience.
Very simple and unobtrusive setup.
No editing of the source code is required. Clear configuration directions with examples are provided. All required configuration data is entered as a set of function parameters, so there is no need to add code like 'onmouseover=blah()' to the page's markup.

This display is using 'restore' mode and also demonstrates the facility to call external code, in this case to change the background colour.

This group is combined seamlessly with SmartRoll to add 'locking' image swaps on the thumbnails.
ThumbSmart and SmartRoll are set-up completely independently, both configured to act upon the same thumbnail images.
